Moving to Three

We want to make your move to Three as quick and easy as possible. As a new customer, you may find some of the following information useful.

Activating your SIM

You don't need a SIM change if you’re an existing customer and your current SIM fits your new device.

Your current SIM will remain active on the new device.

If you’re a new customer or need a new SIM, just choose the right size from the SIM provided.

  • Make sure you back up your contacts before changing to your new SIM (does not apply to Apple iPhone).
  • Get in touch with your Three point of contact or call our Business Care Team on 1913 to activate your SIM.

Keeping your existing phone number

You may wish to keep your existing number when joining Three from another network. In this instance we ‘port’ (move) the number to your new Three SIM card. We can complete the port at a specific time and date if needed.

The number will stay active on the old SIM until the port takes place. This ensures there’s no downtime while switching.

You can submit your port request through your Three point of contact.

We offer onsite or offsite assistance with user switching for large companies. This includes support in transferring data from old devices to new devices, configuring devices/apps for specific business needs and setting up email accounts on new devices.

FAQs

If you’re moving to Three and keeping your existing phone, it may be locked to your current network. You can check this by inserting the Three SIM card before you activate the SIM.

You’ll see a message saying the SIM card is not supported if the phone is locked.

If so, you need to contact your current network and request an unlock code before switching to Three.

This depends on the model of phone and the settings of the email account – however most accounts can be setup by following the steps below:

  • Step 1 - On your new device, tap on the Settings / System Settings icon.
  • Step 2 - Tap Cloud & Accounts / Accounts & Passwords.
  • Step 3 - Tap Accounts / Add Account.
  • Step 4 - Tap on the relevant server ie Microsoft Exchange / ActiveSync option.
  • Step 5 - Enter your Email Address and Password, then tap Next / Manual Setup.
  • Step 6 - Enter any additional information when prompted and complete set up.

*Please note that your IT infrastructure may dictate that information relating to email servers, domains, usernames and other technical information specific to your business may be restricted or confidential. In this instance the account cannot be set up without this information.

Migrating Content from Old Devices
How you move the content from your old phone to your new phone depends on the models of the phones; here are some general guidelines.
If you use an iPhone and are switching to another iPhone, use iCloud or iTunes on your computer. All you need to do is back up your old iPhone to iCloud/ iTunes. Unbox your new iPhone and follow the onscreen instructions to restore content from your back up.

If you are switching from a Samsung to an iPhone, you can migrate your content through the ‘Move to iOS’ app.

  • Step 1 - Download the ‘Move to iOS’ app on the Samsung and follow the instructions on the screen.
  • Step 2 - Unbox your new iPhone, insert your new SIM card, power up the handset and follow the instructions on the screen.
  • Step 3 - Once the transfer is complete, you can start using your iPhone.

Migrating content from a Samsung to another Samsung can be done easily by with the ‘Samsung Smart Switch’ app. Place your devices close together (within eight inches) and run the app on both. Then, on the old device, select [Android Device], [Start], [Connect]. This lets you send the data saved on your old device to the new Samsung device.

If you’re switching to Samsung from iPhone, some Samsung devices come with an adapter that allows content migration via cable. Or, you can use a computer to migrate content.

  • Step 1 - Connect your iPhone to iTunes using your computer and back up the device.
  • Step 2 - Once you’ve completed the backup, your files are automatically stored in a default location, unless you've chosen to store them elsewhere. Default locations relative to the operating systems are below.

  • Step 3 - Download and install the ‘Samsung Smart Switch’ app for Mac or PC.
  • Step 4 - Connect your new Samsung to your computer and open the app.
  • Step 5 - Click Restore to start the transfer process. To change what content is transferred to your Samsung, click ‘Select a different backup.

Major Android manufacturers will often include custom migration tools on their devices. For example, Samsung offers its Smart Switch app, while Motorola has its own Migrate tool.

There are also a number of free apps available to download from the Google Play Store that will allow for easy data transfer from one Android device to another.
