Three launched in 2005 and is Ireland's fastest growing mobile network. Three operates Ireland's largest high speed network. Three has 27.8 million customers worldwide and is Europe's leading 3G operator. Three is the market leader with over 200,000 mobile broadband subscribers in Ireland and 5 million worldwide. Three was the first to launch mobile broadband in Ireland with a datacard modem in 2006, as well as being the first operator in Ireland to offer a pre-paid mobile broadband service. Three operates the most advanced high speed network in the country and uses technology to support speeds of up to 7.2 mb per second, upgrading to 14.4 mb per second at the end of 2010. Three has 96% population coverage for high speed mobile broadband, voice and text and will have nationwide coverage by the end of 2010.
In December 2008, Three won the Government contract to roll-out broadband services to the final 10% of Ireland under the National Broadband Scheme. Three is connecting the unconnected throughout rural Ireland. So far, Three has invested €600 million in building the Irish network and is investing a further €140 million and creating 170 new jobs as part of the scheme.

Three was also the first mobile network to offer Windows Live Messenger. WLM allows you to chat with friends and even take photos on your mobile, then instantly send them and other files to your friends, all for free.
